First round of WYCO 2019 had completed tonight. This great competition witnessed to many surprising results such that from the first 8 top seed, few managed to survive out of this round without wounds.
On the second board, 2nd top seed, Russia (ELO average of 2408) is lost by 3-1 against number 26, Turkmenistan. On board 3 and 4 of this team match, Turkmen players on board 3 and 4 won against their opponents despite the rating difference over 500 elo.
29th seed Slovenia drew 2-2 against 4th seed, Greece. Larissa Kuhar of Slovenia had a pawn up against FM Katopodis, but game turned onto Katopodis' favor later. Kuhar still managed to hold the position with spirit to bring her team a precious 1 point.
Other surprising results are from Malaysia starting at 31st rank, winning against 7th seed Armenia by 2.5-1.5. 32nd seed Turkey Turquoise also won against the 8th seed, Serbia.
Round two will start at 10:00 a.m. Tomorrow as live commentary and analysis will continue by round starts.

The World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad which is organized by the Turkish Chess Federation with the sponsorship of Corum Municipality will be held in Corum between 28th October - 06th November 2019. With the participation of 51 teams from 40 countries, this great championship’s live broadcast will be made by IM Can Arduman and FM Erkin Karaokcu’s analyses and comments. |
